Google has launched Doppl, an experimental AI-powered fashion app from Google Labs that lets users virtually try on clothes from multiple retailers before buying. Available now in the US on both iOS and Android, Doppl curates personalized outfits and generates realistic try-on videos using user-uploaded photos or AI models.
How It Works
Users start by answering style questions, selecting suggested outfits, and uploading a full-body photo—or opting for an AI-generated model if preferred. The app then delivers a Discovery feed with shoppable recommendations, featuring AI videos of actual products from various merchants. Shoppers can even upload their own clothing images for virtual fitting, with direct purchase links streamlining the process.
Smart Limitations
Doppl excludes items like bathing suits, lingerie, shoes, and accessories, while enforcing Google’s generative AI policies against sheer clothing. Access requires users to be 18 or older, ensuring responsible use of the technology.
Joining the Trend
This app advances beyond Google Chrome’s Shopping tab, tapping into the growing virtual try-on wave. Luxury brands like Gucci, Dior, Louis Vuitton, and Prada offer AR features for sneakers, sunglasses, and accessories. Mass retailers including Walmart, ASOS, H&M, and Target have rolled out similar tools, while Nike and Adidas provide AR shoe try-ons, positioning Doppl to potentially lead with its cross-retailer approach.
