Apple has released important updates for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, addressing over 20 security vulnerabilities in iOS 18.6 and iPadOS 18.6, and nearly 80 in macOS Sequoia 15.6. These updates come as Apple continues beta-testing iOS 26, with the new versions aimed at strengthening device security before the major OS release in the fall.

The iOS 18.6 and iPadOS 18.6 updates fix critical flaws including one in Accessibility where VoiceOver could inadvertently read aloud a user’s passcode, risking unauthorized access. Other vulnerabilities involve the potential for memory corruption triggered by maliciously crafted audio files. Additionally, eight fixes address issues in WebKit — the underlying engine for Safari — where malicious web content could cause crashes, leak sensitive information, or corrupt memory.

For iPad users on older versions not eligible for iPadOS 18.6, Apple is also rolling out iPadOS 17.7.9, which includes a wide range of security patches to protect devices.

Mac users receive macOS Sequoia 15.6, a comprehensive update that patches over 80 vulnerabilities affecting system components like Dock, Find My, Notes, Safari, Spotlight, and System Settings. Some of these flaws could result in system crashes or the leakage of private data. Apple is also providing updates for older Macs through macOS Sonoma 14.7.7 and macOS Ventura 13.7.7, ensuring broader security coverage across its Mac lineup.

Other Apple platforms are also receiving security improvements: visionOS 2.6, tvOS 18.6, and watchOS 11.6 updates patch between 17 and 19 vulnerabilities each.

None of these security issues are currently known to be actively exploited by hackers, but Apple strongly recommends installing the updates promptly to safeguard personal data and device functionality. Users can update their iPhones and iPads by navigating to Settings > General > Software Update. Macs can be updated via System Settings > General > Software Update.

In summary, these updates are crucial in fixing serious vulnerabilities that could expose passcodes, cause app crashes, or leak sensitive information. Installing them promptly is one of the easiest and most effective steps users can take to protect their Apple devices from potential future threats.
