Last Chance: Fortnite Settlement Claims Close July 9

Fortnite players who believe they were wrongly charged for in-game purchases have just two days left to claim their share of a major settlement with Epic Games. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has set a final deadline of July 9, 2025, for eligible individuals to submit their claims for compensation stemming from Epic’s $245 million settlement over deceptive billing practices. This payout comes after the FTC found that Epic Games used misleading design tactics—so-called “dark patterns”—that led players, including children, to make unwanted purchases or face account lockouts after disputing charges.

To qualify for a refund, you must meet at least one of the following criteria: you were charged in-game currency for items you didn’t want between January 2017 and September 2022; your child made unauthorized charges to your credit card between January 2017 and November 2018; or your account was locked between January 2017 and September 2022 after you complained to your credit card company about wrongful charges. Claims can be filed online through the FTC’s official Fortnite settlement portal. Applicants must be at least 18 years old to file, but parents or guardians can submit on behalf of minors.

Payments will be issued after the FTC reviews and validates all claims, with refunds expected to be distributed in 2026. Recipients will receive their money via the payment method chosen during the claim process—either a check (which must be cashed within 90 days) or PayPal (to be redeemed within 30 days). The FTC has already issued more than $126 million in refunds in previous rounds, but nearly $47 million remains to be distributed. If you believe you’re eligible and haven’t yet filed, act quickly—once the July 9 deadline passes, you won’t be able to claim your share of the settlement.
