Google Gemini Introduces Personalized AI Responses, Temporary Chats, and Enhanced Privacy Controls

Google has rolled out new features in its Gemini AI app designed to deliver more personalized, flexible, and privacy-focused user interactions. These updates include leveraging past conversation history for tailored responses and introducing Temporary Chats for private, ephemeral conversations.

Personalized AI Responses Using Past Conversations

One key enhancement is Gemini’s ability to remember and use details from users’ previous chats—when the “Personal context” setting is enabled. This allows Gemini to offer responses that feel more relevant and connected to individual user preferences. For example:

Gemini Personalized AI Responses
  • Suggesting birthday party ideas based on known interests like favorite comic book characters.
  • Recommending book titles similar to those previously requested, along with thematic quotes.
  • Proposing video content ideas aligned with a user’s specific creative focus, such as Japanese culture for YouTube creators.

Users can control this feature under Settings → Personal context, where they can manage or delete stored conversations to adjust how much Gemini remembers.

Temporary Chats for Greater Privacy

Gemini now supports Temporary Chats, which are intended for short-term, private exchanges. These chats:

Gemini Temporary Chats
  • Are hidden from activity logs and recent chat history.
  • Are excluded from the AI’s training data or personalizing algorithms.
  • Are retained only for 72 hours after the conversation to allow reply and feedback.

This feature is ideal for quick questions, brainstorming sessions, or private conversations that users do not want to influence their ongoing personalized AI relationship.

Enhanced Data Controls for User Privacy

Google is also enhancing user control over data shared with Gemini:

Gemini Enhanced Data Controls
  • Keep Activity (formerly “Gemini Apps Activity”) lets users allow Google to use uploaded files and photos for improving services, but this option can be turned off at any time.
  • Media Sharing Controls enable users to decide if audio, video, or screen sharing through Gemini apps contribute to Google’s service improvements. This setting is off by default for privacy.

Availability and Rollout

  • The personalized response feature using past conversation context is rolling out gradually to Gemini 2.5 Pro users in selected regions, with plans to expand to Gemini 2.5 Flash and other areas.
  • Temporary Chats are available starting now and will become accessible to all users over the next few weeks.

With these updates, Google Gemini aims to create a more personalized and proactive AI experience while respecting user privacy and offering flexible interaction modes. Users can benefit from Gemini acting like a thoughtful partner who understands their preferences while having the option to keep sensitive conversations private and secure.
