Instagram is rolling out a new “Your Algorithm” tool that gives users more control over the content recommendations they see, starting with Reels in the US. The feature is designed as a precise alternative to resetting your entire recommendation history, letting you dial down the “AI slop” without nuking your preferences.
What the new tool does
When watching Reels, users in the US will see a new icon in the top-right corner that looks like two lines with hearts, representing access to the “Your Algorithm” controls. Tapping it opens a dashboard that shows the types of content Instagram thinks you’re into, summarized by AI based on your recent activity. From there, you can choose topics you want to see more of and topics you want to see less, effectively reshaping your Reels feed without starting from scratch.
How it fine-tunes your feed
The interface presents “chips” for content categories, such as themes or interests, that you can keep, remove, or add to. This lets you push out unwanted trends or low-quality recommendations while boosting the kind of videos you actually care about. Once you’ve refined the list, Instagram also gives you the option to share your interests to your Story so friends and followers can see what you’re currently into.
Availability and future expansion
The “Your Algorithm” tool is rolling out first to Instagram users in the US and currently only applies to Reels recommendations. Instagram says it plans to expand the controls to the Explore page and more areas of the app over time, and to roll it out more broadly to users who use the app in English “soon.”
