OpenAI released its highly anticipated GPT-5 model on August 7, 2025, making it available for all ChatGPT users, including free, Plus, Pro, and Team subscribers. This version is touted as the smartest, fastest, and safest model yet, delivering major improvements in coding, accuracy, reasoning, and safety with fewer hallucinations and better adherence to safety protocols through a feature called Safe Completions.

Apple has announced that its AI assistant integration, Apple Intelligence, will leverage GPT-5 in the upcoming iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe 26 updates, set to launch at the end of summer 2025. This integration means Apple devices will use GPT-5 to enhance Siri’s capabilities, especially for complex queries that Apple’s native AI cannot handle alone. Currently, ChatGPT functions as an optional extension to Apple Intelligence and can be enabled or disabled by users to control when Siri references the external AI model. With the integration, users will benefit from GPT-5’s improved reasoning, safety, and contextual understanding on their Apple devices.

GPT-5 is free to use for all users on ChatGPT but includes tiered paid plans: ChatGPT Plus at $20/month offers higher usage limits, while the Pro plan at $200/month provides unlimited use and access to an enhanced GPT-5 Pro version with extended reasoning capabilities.
