The Samsung Galaxy Ring, a new health-tracking gadget, just caused a scary situation for one user. A YouTube tech creator, Daniel (@ZONEofTECH), shared on X (formerly Twitter) that the smart ring’s battery swelled up and got stuck on his finger.

Because of the incident, Daniel was not allowed to board his flight and had to visit a hospital to safely remove the ring.

What Happened?

  • The Galaxy Ring’s lithium-ion battery started swelling right before Daniel’s flight.
  • The tight metal design gave no space for the battery to expand, so it pressed hard against his finger, leaving it red and swollen.
  • He had been noticing poor battery life for months, which might have been an early warning sign.
  • He mentioned that hot weather in Hawaii, saltwater, multiple flights, and the already-weak battery could have made the swelling worse.

Samsung’s Response

Samsung told 9to5Google that customer safety is their top priority. The company said incidents like this are very rare. They recommend trying simple tricks to remove a stuck ring, like using soap and water or dipping your hand in cold water. However, Daniel claimed that doing so actually made the battery expand even more, making things worse.

Not the First Case

This is not the only report of a swollen Galaxy Ring battery. A Reddit user also faced the same problem recently. In both cases, the battery seemed to bulge in the same spot—on the opposite side of the sensors.

Should You Worry?

This might not be another Galaxy Note 7-style disaster, but it raises safety concerns for users of smart rings. Lithium-ion batteries can swell under certain conditions, and since a ring is worn tightly on the body, it can quickly turn dangerous if something goes wrong.

For Daniel, the incident was serious enough to put him off smart rings entirely. As he put it: “Won’t be wearing a smart ring ever again.”
