Samsung Electronics is bringing its One UI platform from smartphones and TVs to a broader category of smart home appliances, aiming to create a consistent user experience across devices. Starting with models launched in 2024, Wi-Fi enabled smart appliances will now receive seven years of software updates, ensuring longer usability, functionality, and security.

A Unified Smart Home Ecosystem

Samsung’s push into unified software ensures that everyday household tech shares a familiar look and feel with its Galaxy smartphones and TVs. Key integrations include:

  • Apps & Services: Apps like Bixby, Gallery, and Samsung TV Plus are now accessible across appliances, smartphones, and TVs, enabling seamless interaction and entertainment.
  • Smart Device Connectivity: Through SmartThings, users can monitor and control a wide range of devices and services such as Family Care, Pet Care, and Home Care from a central hub.
  • One UI Features Across Screens: Features like Now Brief provide at-a-glance personalized updates, from weather and schedules to appliance details, such as the remaining cycle time of a washing machine.

Seven Years of Updates for Smart Appliances

Samsung confirmed that all Wi-Fi-enabled smart appliances released from 2024 onwards will benefit from seven years of software updates. This extended lifecycle not only enhances security and performance but also extends the practical lifespan of smart appliances, much like Samsung’s commitment to long-term support for its Galaxy smartphones.

Availability

The new software updates will begin rolling out in September 2025 to eligible 2024 appliances and continue over the next few months. Samsung has committed to delivering revisions for seven years post-launch, offering improved longevity in a product category where devices often remain in households for a decade or longer.

A Step Towards Seamless Ecosystem Integration

With this expansion, Samsung takes another big step in reinforcing its strategy of connected ecosystems across mobile, entertainment, and smart home categories. By giving appliances the same level of software continuity as smartphones, Samsung looks to position itself as a leader in hybrid digital homes, where appliances serve not just as hardware but as part of a broader digital lifestyle.
