Samsung has officially confirmed it will launch its highly anticipated tri-fold smartphone by the end of 2025, along with its upcoming XR headset. The announcement came during Samsung’s Q2 2025 earnings report, reaffirming the company’s commitment to pioneering foldable technology.

The tri-fold smartphone is expected to feature a unique design that unfolds twice, creating a Z-shaped large display, estimated to be around 9.9 to 10.8 inches diagonally with OLED technology and a 120Hz refresh rate for smooth visuals. When folded, the device will have a secondary cover screen approximately 6.5 inches in size. Rumors indicate it will be powered by a high-end chipset similar to the Galaxy S25 series, possibly Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite or Samsung’s Exynos 2400, paired with up to 16GB of RAM. The build may combine premium materials such as aluminum and titanium.

Despite its premium positioning with a rumored steep price of about $3,000, the device may have modest battery performance with a “regular” battery and relatively slow 25W charging, which contrasts with some competitors using advanced silicon-carbon batteries. However, Samsung seems to be focusing on the innovative foldable display technology, catering to users who prioritize productivity and immersive media consumption on a large, versatile screen.

Samsung’s tri-fold smartphone will enter a competitive foldable market where Huawei already launched its Mate XT tri-fold in 2024, a device praised for its thin design and camera capabilities. Huawei is expected to release a second-generation model soon, raising the stakes for Samsung’s entry.

Samsung plans to have the tri-fold phone ready for market by the second half of 2025, aiming to cater to early adopters and tech enthusiasts intrigued by the latest foldable innovations.
