Spotify has officially launched Music Videos in beta for Premium users across the U.S. and Canada, bringing a fresh dimension to its streaming experience. This new feature allows users to seamlessly switch between audio and video modes while listening to their favorite tracks on TV, desktop, iOS, and Android devices.
After debuting Music Videos last year in 11 countries—excluding the U.S.—Spotify secured new licensing rights through an agreement with the National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA), enabling this roll-out. Premium subscribers can now tap “Switch to Video” to watch official music videos, ranging from studio versions to live performances and cover songs, right where their audio playback left off. Turning the device to landscape mode offers a full-screen viewing experience, and with one tap, users can revert to background audio listening.
While the current video catalog is somewhat limited, Spotify promises rapid expansion in the coming months. The company highlights that video content significantly enhances user engagement. According to a recent survey, over 70% of users believe that having more video content would improve their Spotify experience. Additionally, Spotify’s data shows that users who watch a video after discovering a song are 34% more likely to stream it again and 24% more likely to save or share it within a week.
With this beta launch, Spotify aims to build a top-tier video experience to better compete with platforms like YouTube and TikTok, signaling a new era where music and video merge effortlessly for listeners in North America.
