The Vivo X200 Ultra has achieved a remarkable #2 ranking on DXOMARK’s global camera leaderboard, just two points shy of the top spot held by the OPPO Find X8 Ultra, solidifying its position as an exceptional smartphone camera.

DXOMARK awarded the Vivo X200 Ultra an impressive photo score of 173 points—topping the photo category—and a video score of 156 points. The overall combined camera score is 167 points. This places the X200 Ultra above notable rivals such as the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra, Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max, Google Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Xiaomi 15 Ultra.

Key highlights of the Vivo X200 Ultra’s camera performance include:

  • Primary camera: A 50MP 1/1.28-inch sensor with a 35mm equivalent f/1.7 aperture lens, featuring dual-pixel PDAF and optical image stabilization (OIS). Its 35mm focal length, unusual among flagship phones, is particularly well-suited for portrait photography, offering natural background compression and DSLR-like bokeh with excellent subject isolation.
  • Ultra-wide camera: A 50MP ultra-wide sensor also with OIS, delivering sharp, well-exposed images with good detail retention and balanced dynamic range in daylight, and decent low-light performance with higher noise typical of ultra-wide cameras.
  • Telephoto camera: A standout 200MP telephoto lens with periscope design and OIS that provides exceptional zoom clarity and detail up to 10x optical zoom in daylight, maintaining good quality at moderate zoom levels even in low light. This lens benefits from advanced computational tuning and a unique three-group lens design known as Super Light Prism tech, aiding optical performance.
  • Video: The phone supports 10-bit Log recording, 4K at 120fps slow-motion video, and 4K time-lapse, with generally accurate exposure and transitions, stable autofocus, and well-managed focus changes during video capture.

DXOMARK praises the device for excellent exposure control, especially in portrait scenes with realistic skin tones, well-managed contrast on faces, and smooth, natural bokeh. The camera system’s autofocus is fast and reliable, offering minimal shutter lag in good lighting conditions.

However, some shortcomings were noted:

  • Narrow depth-of-field can result in blurred subjects in group shots, sometimes causing faces in the background to be out of focus.
  • White balance inaccuracies appear in low-light photos and daylight videos, occasionally resulting in a warm or inaccurate color cast.
  • Slight loss of fine detail at close and medium zoom ranges on telephoto shots, and reduced sharpness in some zoomed-in photos.
  • Minor focus inaccuracies under challenging low-light conditions and occasional halo artifacts in images.

Overall, the Vivo X200 Ultra offers a highly original and well-rounded camera system that excels in portraits, zoom, and ultra-wide photography. Its standout 35mm primary lens and high-performance telephoto camera, supplemented by advanced imaging chips for efficient processing, make it one of the best smartphone cameras currently available, narrowly falling short of DXOMARK’s #1 overall camera ranking.

For users looking for top-tier smartphone photography with excellent zoom versatility and portrait capabilities, the Vivo X200 Ultra represents a compelling flagship choice.
