Microsoft is rolling out a significant update to Copilot Vision on Windows 11, expanding its capabilities from just seeing browser tabs in Edge to now viewing and analyzing everything on your desktop. This move brings Copilot Vision closer to being a truly context-aware AI assistant, offering users voice interaction and real-time help based on what’s visibly on their entire screen—not just individual applications.
Previously, Copilot Vision could only access data from specific apps, such as Edge browser tabs, or—more recently—up to two windows at a time. With this latest release, Windows Insiders can now grant Copilot Vision access to their whole desktop, meaning the AI can “see” any open app, file, or workspace and respond with explanations, suggestions, and contextual assistance in real time. Copilot can answer questions, guide users through complex tasks, give feedback on creative projects, help troubleshoot errors, and much more—simply by observing what’s on the screen and responding through voice or text.

To enable the feature, users must:
- Join the Windows Insider Program and update the Copilot app (via the Microsoft Store) to version 1.25071.125 or higher.
- Look for the glasses icon beside the microphone in the Copilot interface. Clicking it allows desktop sharing, after which Copilot can analyze and interact with anything displayed onscreen.
Unlike Microsoft Recall, which continually captures screen snapshots in the background, Copilot Vision only “sees” what you explicitly share when the feature is activated. You can stop sharing at any time for privacy and security.
This capability is rolling out free of charge for Insiders and does not require a Copilot Pro subscription. The gradual rollout means not all Insiders will see the update immediately. Microsoft emphasizes that the feature offers powerful functionality while keeping the user in control, allowing them to choose exactly what Copilot can view.
With Copilot Vision’s desktop sharing, Microsoft is taking another step toward making Windows 11 a platform for deeply integrated, hands-free AI assistance—helpful for productivity, education, troubleshooting, and everyday computing tasks.
