Xiaomi Offers Six Years of Software Update Support on These Devices

Xiaomi continues to shine as one of the most reliable brands when it comes to software updates in the Android ecosystem. Last year, Xiaomi set a remarkable benchmark by pledging up to six years of software support—not just for its flagship models, but for a broader range of devices. This extended commitment helps Xiaomi users keep their phones secure and up to date much longer, reducing the need for frequent upgrades.

Devices Eligible for Six Years of Software Updates

Xiaomi initially introduced this policy with the Xiaomi 15 and 15 Ultra. Since then, the list has expanded to include several smartphones and tablets across different price tiers. The devices currently confirmed to benefit from six years of software updates (including security patches) are:

  • Xiaomi 15
  • Xiaomi 15 Ultra
  • Xiaomi Pad 7
  • Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro
  • Poco F7
  • Poco F7 Pro
  • Poco F7 Ultra
  • Redmi Note 14 (4G)

These devices will receive continuous security updates for six years. While these updates focus primarily on maintaining device security by fixing newly discovered vulnerabilities, they do not typically introduce new features or visual changes.

For feature updates, all eligible Xiaomi models are promised four major operating system (OS) upgrades, which will bring new functionalities, improvements, and enhancements. This includes upcoming updates like the Android 16-based HyperOS 3, enhancing both usability and security.

Going Beyond Six Years of Updates

Xiaomi’s update policy stands out for its generosity, especially compared to many Android competitors. Some Xiaomi devices, such as the Redmi Pad 2, are slated to receive up to seven years of security updates, the longest in the Android landscape, surpassing even brands like Samsung and Google in this area.

A Boost for Mid-Range Devices

What is particularly impressive is Xiaomi’s inclusion of mid-range models like the Poco F7 series and the Redmi Note 14 (4G) in this extended software support program. This move gives traditionally budget-friendly devices a flagship-like update experience, ensuring these users are not left behind in terms of security and functionality.

Why This Update Policy Matters

Extended software support means Xiaomi devices stay protected against evolving security threats for years after purchase. It also allows users to enjoy the latest software improvements without the financial burden of frequently upgrading their phones. Furthermore, this strategy enhances customer trust and promotes sustainability by reducing electronic waste.

Looking Forward

Xiaomi’s commitment to long-term software support could set a trend for other brands to follow. As the rollout of HyperOS 3 and Android 16 progresses, users on the eligible devices will soon experience new features alongside enhanced security.

For Xiaomi owners, checking if your device is on the list means you can expect reassurance about your phone’s lifespan and software relevance for many years ahead.
