YouTube’s new AI-powered search results carousel is a promising tool for enhancing user search experience for Premium members in the U.S., currently under limited testing with potential broader release to follow depending on feedback and performance.
YouTube is expanding its experimental AI-powered search results carousel feature to more Premium subscribers in the United States. This AI-driven carousel, which first launched in June 2025, appears at the top of certain search results related to shopping, travel, and local activities to help users find content more efficiently. It displays a horizontal row of relevant videos accompanied by brief AI-generated topic descriptions, allowing users to quickly discover and jump to videos that best match their queries.
How This Works

For example, searching for “best beaches in Hawaii” will show a curated set of clips with summaries to streamline exploration. The feature is available on both iOS and Android YouTube mobile apps, supports English-language videos, and is opt-in via YouTube’s experimental features page. Currently, the rollout is limited to U.S. Premium users and will be available through August 20, 2025, as part of the testing period. Depending on the results and user feedback, YouTube might consider expanding access to more users and regions after the trial.
The AI carousel aims to enhance content discovery and search satisfaction by summarizing key video content without needing to scroll extensively. However, creators have expressed concerns that such AI-driven summaries might reduce video views, as users may get needed information directly from the carousel itself. Alongside this, YouTube is also expanding a conversational AI assistant feature to select non-Premium users in the U.S., designed to provide video recommendations, answer questions, and help users engage more deeply with content.
