Microsoft has officially released the Windows 11 2025 Update, also known as version 25H2. This update focuses on improving security and making the operating system leaner and faster to install for users already on version 24H2.
The update is delivered as an enablement package, which means it activates features already downloaded on devices, allowing for a quick install with just one restart. It removes older tools like PowerShell 2.0 and WMIC and includes advanced security enhancements through the Microsoft Secure Future Initiative, including AI-assisted secure coding and improved vulnerability detection.
Users running Windows 11 version 24H2 will begin receiving the update gradually, while those still on older versions like 23H2 will have to upgrade to 24H2 first. Commercial and education customers get extra features such as Wi-Fi 7 support and the ability to remove some pre-installed Microsoft Store apps using management tools.
The update resets the support lifecycle with 24 months of support for Home and Pro editions and 36 months for Enterprise and Education editions. Users are encouraged to update soon for the latest features and security improvements. The full rollout will continue over the next few months, with official availability through Windows Server Update Services starting October 14, 2025.
To check for the update, go to Settings > Windows Update, enable “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available,” then click “Check for updates” and install from there.
