Samsung has officially showcased its debut Tri-Fold smartphone for the very first time at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit in South Korea. This marks the company’s boldest move yet in folding phone innovation, blending the portability of a phone with the versatility of a tablet.

Triple-Folding Design: Phone or Tablet

The Galaxy Z TriFold features a single outer 6.5-inch display and two inward-folding hinges that transform the device into a massive 10-inch tablet when fully unfolded. A punch-hole selfie camera sits in the top-right of the folding display, surrounded by uniform—though slightly thick—bezels. The back remains hidden for now, but leaks suggest a pill-shaped island with a triple rear camera setup, including a flagship 200MP main sensor and ultra-wide/telephoto lenses.

Powerful Internals & Software

Under the hood, the Galaxy Z TriFold is expected to pack the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, up to 16GB of RAM, and as much as 1TB storage—a combination ideal for productivity and gaming. The phone runs One UI 8 (based on Android 16), introducing a unique “split trio” mode that lets users run up to three apps simultaneously on the main display, boosting multitasking for work or play.

Premium Build and Exclusive Launch

Due to its complex hinge mechanism and advanced display engineering, the phone will be priced around 3 million won (approximately Rs 1,85,000 or $2,800). Initial production is rumored to be limited to between 50,000 and 200,000 units, with a release expected for select markets including South Korea, China, Taiwan, Singapore, and the UAE. The U.S. launch is still uncertain, keeping the TriFold as a showcase of Samsung’s R&D and luxury branding.

Launch Timeline

While an exact date is still under wraps, all signs point to an official launch window by the end of 2025, with availability likely in November or December. Samsung emphasizes that the Tri-Fold reflects its continued push toward innovative foldables amid growing competition and slower growth in traditional foldable sales.
