OPPO India has launched LUMO Lab, an India-exclusive initiative aimed at co-creating and refining mobile imaging experiences designed specifically for Indian users. The move highlights OPPO’s commitment to developing camera technology that authentically captures the country’s cultural and visual diversity.
The announcement comes ahead of the upcoming OPPO Find X9 Series, which will feature the company’s latest Hasselblad optics and LUMO Imaging Engine. Through LUMO Lab, OPPO aims to ensure that these advancements resonate with Indian consumers and reflect the nuances of local photography styles.
Bringing Indian Perspectives to Global Tech
The LUMO Lab will serve as a collaborative platform, bringing together OPPO’s in-house imaging experts and some of India’s leading photographers. The goal is to fine-tune OPPO’s camera systems to better represent real-world scenarios across India — from vibrant festivals to subtle textures and tones.
The initiative will focus on three key areas:
- Authentic Skin Tones: Ensuring accurate and natural rendering of India’s diverse complexions.
- Vibrant Celebrations: Capturing the rich colors and motion of Indian festivals and events.
- Intricate Textures: Highlighting the craftsmanship and environmental details unique to India.
Expert Collaboration

To lead this localization effort, OPPO has partnered with renowned Indian photographers Joseph Radhik, Ashik Aseem, and Zaid Salman. This expert panel will work closely with OPPO’s global imaging engineers to shape how the Find X platform interprets color, contrast, and tone.
Setting a New Benchmark in Smartphone Photography
By incorporating real-world feedback from Indian photographers into its imaging engine, OPPO aims to set a new standard for authentic and emotionally resonant smartphone photography. The company believes LUMO Lab will help bridge the gap between high-end imaging technology and the everyday beauty of Indian life.
“Through LUMO Lab, we’re making sure our imaging innovations truly reflect the stories, colors, and people of India,” said an OPPO India spokesperson.
The OPPO Find X9 Series, expected to debut soon, will be the first device to benefit from insights gathered at the LUMO Lab — potentially redefining how smartphones capture India’s visual essence.
