Spotify is testing Prompted Playlists, a groundbreaking feature that lets Premium users in New Zealand create custom playlists by simply typing natural language descriptions of their desired vibe. Unlike existing AI tools, this beta offers unlimited flexibility in prompts—from deep cuts from top artists’ movie soundtracks to hyper-specific moods—while auto-refreshing daily or weekly for ongoing relevance.

How It Works

Users type prompts like “deep cut music from this year’s biggest movies by my favorite artists” directly in the Spotify app, and the algorithm generates a tailored playlist on the spot. Edit the prompt anytime for instant tweaks, with no restrictions on breadth or specificity. It’s positioned as a “Discover Weekly you control,” blending AI smarts with user-directed precision.

Key Differences from AI DJ

This goes beyond Spotify’s current AI Playlist by removing prompt limits and enabling perpetual relevance through scheduled updates. Playlists evolve automatically to match fresh content fitting your description, reducing reliance on manual exclusions or taste profile tweaks.

Availability

The beta launches December 11 exclusively for Premium subscribers in New Zealand, supporting English prompts only for now. Spotify plans improvements and wider rollout post-testing, potentially adding languages later.
