Tired of contorting your fingers to hit that hamburger menu on big-screen Android phones? Google Messages is fixing it with a new dynamic context menu now rolling out in beta—making chats easier to manage with one hand.
Spotted first in late October, this update replaces the top-right hamburger icon with a smart vertical menu that pops up right below your long-pressed message. No more “Stretch Armstrong” gymnastics on foldables or tablets.
How the Dynamic Menu Works
Long-press any chat or message, and here’s what appears:
- Reactions tray above the message for quick emojis.
- Context-smart options below, tailored to what you’re doing:
- Reply
- Forward
- Copy
- Star
- Delete
- Select more
- Info
The menu adapts dynamically—keeping it compact and relevant. Deleting multiple messages? Long-press the first, tap “Select more,” scroll and tap others (top-left shows “X 2” for two selected), then hit the trash icon.
Already Live on Pixels—Here’s How to Get It
Author Alan Friedman tested it on a Pixel 6 Pro running Android 16 QPR3 Beta. It’s hitting Google Messages beta testers now via Play Store.
Join the Beta (Quick Steps):
- Open Play Store, search “Google Messages.”
- Scroll to “Join the beta” (if available—spots limited).
- Tap to join; update may take minutes to 24 hours.
- Confirm with “(Beta)” label and “You’re a beta tester” box.
Not in beta? Check for updates or wait for stable rollout. Reddit users confirm multi-delete still works seamlessly.
This one-hand upgrade shines on large devices, boosting usability without clutter. Google’s hinting at more context-aware tweaks ahead.
What do you think—game-changer or gimmick? Poll says most Android fans are excited.
