JioHotstar is revolutionizing video streaming with the launch of ‘Shop the Look,’ a real-time contextual commerce feature that lets users buy on-screen items without leaving the app. Exclusive to the mobile app, this tool transforms passive viewing into interactive shopping, bridging entertainment and e-commerce in one seamless experience.
The feature debuted alongside the latest season of MTV Splitsvilla on January 9, partnering with fashion brand NEWME. As contestants flaunt outfits on screen, a dedicated shopping layer pops up with exact matches or curated alternatives. Users activate it at will, ensuring uninterrupted playback for those focused on the show.

Key highlights include native in-app checkout—handling payments and delivery details without redirects—and modular design for future growth. JioHotstar plans to expand into beauty, accessories, food, and groceries, turning high-engagement moments into shopping opportunities.
“This marks a strategic shift to intent-led interactions,” a JioHotstar spokesperson said. “We’re blending technology, content, and commerce to redefine streaming.”
For brands, ‘Shop the Look’ offers precise targeting, embedding products into the narrative rather than interrupting it with ads. As Indian streaming platforms compete in a crowded market, this positions JioHotstar as a pioneer in shoppable video.
Early feedback praises the non-intrusive design, with potential to boost retention and revenue. More partnerships and categories are expected soon.
