New Leak: Galaxy S26 Costs More Than S25, Ultra Gets Price Cut

A fresh leak from a trusted European journalist has stirred up the Galaxy S26 pricing rumors, revealing a mixed bag for Samsung fans. While the standard Galaxy S26 might hit fans with a steep increase over the S25, the S26 Ultra could actually drop in price—potentially making it a steal compared to its predecessor.

Base Galaxy S26 Faces a Tough Climb

Samsung recently teased bumping the base storage on its vanilla flagship from 128GB to 256GB, a move that sounded like a win. But Swedish pricing intel paints a darker picture: the entry-level S26 is tipped at SEK 11,990, roughly $1,358. Don’t panic—that’s not the US price—but it suggests a stateside starting point around $900-$950, well above the S25’s $800 for 128GB or $860 for 256GB.

This hike could put the S26 above even the iPhone 17’s expected pricing, denting its appeal for budget-conscious buyers. The box-office buzz? Not looking promising if Samsung sticks to this trajectory.

Bright Spots for Plus and Ultra Models

It’s not all doom. The Galaxy S26+ entry-level 256GB variant should match the S25+’s price, keeping mid-range options steady. The 512GB Plus might nudge up slightly, though.

The real shocker? The S26 Ultra’s 256GB and 512GB models could dip by SEK 1,000 ($113) and SEK 500 ($56.50) versus the S25 Ultra. That might translate to US prices of $1,199.99 and $1,349.99—cheaper than the current $1,299.99 and $1,419.99. The 1TB Ultra stays flat. If true, the Ultra becomes both upgraded (think rumored 10-bit screens and scam detection) and more affordable, targeting power users.

Samsung’s High-Wire Act Amid Rising Costs

Leaker Roland Quandt shared these details via Bluesky, blending prior rumors of hikes and holds. Samsung faces ballooning component costs, so passing them to the base model (with slimmer margins) while trimming Ultra profits makes business sense. But ditching free storage upgrades? That could sting early sales.

These leaks align with renders from Evan Blass, showing sleeker designs with cases. Will this strategy boost the S26 series or backfire? Stay tuned as more details emerge ahead of a likely early 2027 launch.
