Amazon has announced two new additions to its Kindle Colorsoft lineup, offering more options for readers who enjoy e-ink color displays. Following the launch of the original Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition last year—the company’s first color-screen Kindle—Amazon is now introducing a cheaper Colorsoft model priced at $249.99 and a kids-focused bundle retailing at $269.99. The Signature Edition with 32GB storage and premium features will continue to be available for $279.99.
The new cheaper Kindle Colorsoft offers 16GB of storage, which is half the capacity of the Signature Edition. This reduction in storage helps cut the price by $30, making color e-reading more accessible. However, the Signature Edition maintains advantages such as an auto-adjusting front light for comfortable reading in any environment and wireless charging capabilities, delivering a more premium experience for those who prioritize these features.
Alongside the standard model, Amazon introduces the Kindle Colorsoft Kids bundle. This package includes the 16GB Colorsoft e-reader, two special cover options designed for children, and a complimentary one-year subscription to Amazon Kids Plus, providing access to a vast library of kid-friendly books and content. The kids’ bundle is aimed at encouraging younger readers to enjoy the Kindle format with tailored protections and curated content.
The Kindle Colorsoft family marks Amazon’s push into e-readers with color e-ink displays, a significant shift from the traditional black-and-white Kindle devices. Amazon reports that customers are engaging more with reading on Colorsoft devices, spending greater time on the device and reading hundreds more pages compared to other Kindle models.
Amazon has faced some challenges with the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition shortly after its debut when several customers reported a persistent yellow band appearing on the screen. In response, Amazon temporarily paused shipments to address the issue and has since implemented a combination of software updates and hardware display adjustments to correct the problem.
These new launches build on that learning and offer readers more ways to enjoy color content on Kindle devices, whether for general use or as a child-friendly reading introduction. The expanded lineup aims to bring affordable, vibrant e-reading experiences to a broader audience.
Both new models—the 16GB Kindle Colorsoft and the Kindle Colorsoft Kids bundle—are now available for pre-order and will soon reach customers eager to explore reading in color on Amazon’s popular e-ink platform. The Signature Edition with premium features remains on sale for readers who want the highest-end Kindle Colorsoft experience.
This move underscores Amazon’s commitment to innovating the e-reader space by blending color technology with the lightweight, glare-free qualities of e-ink that readers have come to rely on.
