Adobe Photoshop has introduced several powerful generative AI features that significantly simplify and improve photo editing. The headline innovation is the new Harmonize compositing tool, currently in beta for desktop, web, and early access on iOS. Harmonize automatically blends newly added objects or people into existing photos by intelligently adjusting their color, lighting, shadows, and overall tone to match the surrounding environment. This eliminates the traditionally skill-intensive process of manual color grading and lighting correction, enabling users to create natural-looking composites with just a few clicks.
Harmonize builds on Adobe’s earlier Project Perfect Blend experiment and offers multiple composite style options for users to choose the best fit. It analyzes the photo’s context so that the added elements look seamlessly integrated, even if they originated from entirely different images.
Alongside Harmonize, Adobe also launched a Generative AI upscale tool in beta, allowing images to be enhanced up to 8 megapixels with minimal loss of clarity, ideal for restoring old or low-resolution photos and adapting assets for various uses.
Photoshop’s automatic object removal tool has been improved as well, offering more precise deletions and realistic background fill-ins. A key update lets users remove objects without Photoshop automatically replacing them if that is the user’s preference.
These AI-powered features leverage Adobe Firefly models and advanced machine learning, making high-quality and complex edits accessible to more users, from digital artists to marketers. However, Adobe has integrated content safety safeguards, such as digital Content Credentials, to ensure accountability, showing edit histories to prevent misuse like deepfakes or harmful content creation.
