Samsung has launched a new security feature called Voice Phishing Suspected Call Alert as part of its One UI 8 update, designed to detect AI-driven voice phishing scams in real time during calls. This innovative feature is currently available exclusively in South Korea on Galaxy devices running stable One UI 8, such as the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 purchased in that region.
How the Feature Works

- When making an outgoing call to an unknown or unsaved number, the phone displays a “Detecting” pop-up on the ongoing call screen, indicating that the system is actively monitoring the call for signs of voice phishing.
- The AI-powered detection analyzes the call in real time to identify suspicious voice phishing behavior, which often involves scammers using AI-generated or cloned voices to impersonate others.
- If voice phishing is suspected or detected, the user immediately receives an alert notification with sound and vibration.
- Importantly, all detection processing happens on-device, ensuring user privacy by not sending audio data to external servers.
Limitations and Scope
- The detection currently only works on outgoing calls to unsaved numbers; it does not monitor incoming calls, where many scams typically happen, although Samsung may expand this in the future.
- The feature is limited to South Korea due to reliance on data and training from Korea’s National Police Agency and the National Institute of Scientific Investigation.
- At present, the feature is available only on Galaxy devices running stable One UI 8, primarily newer foldables like the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 sold in Korea.
Relation to Other Samsung Features
Samsung’s Voice Phishing Suspected Call Alert complements its existing Smart Call and Bixby Text Call functions, which help identify and block spam or robocalls but do not analyze call content for phishing scams. This new capability addresses the growing threat of sophisticated voice phishing, where scammers use AI to convincingly impersonate others.
Importance
As voice phishing attacks become more advanced and frequent, Samsung’s AI-driven real-time alert system represents a powerful tool to protect users from financial fraud and identity theft. While the rollout is initially limited, it sets an important precedent that may inspire wider global availability and adoption of similar protections.
