Google’s Gemini-Powered Home Speaker Details Surface After Accidental Reveal

Abhi Soni

Google accidentally revealed its new Gemini-powered Home Speaker during the recent Pixel 10 launch event, and now more details have surfaced about this highly anticipated device. With the speaker already making a surprise appearance in the event video, the launch seems imminent, promising to replace existing Google Home devices with smarter features and a fresh design.

Design and Color Options

The new Home Speaker features a design reminiscent of a fatter Apple HomePod Mini, with a round fabric finish similar to the Nest Mini. Notably, the interaction light wraps around the base of the speaker — a departure from the top-light design found in many competing smart speakers.

It will be available in four colors: black (likely named Obsidian), porcelain white, light green (Jade), and a bright red shade whose official name is still unknown.

Powered by Google’s Gemini AI

Gemini, which is Google’s latest AI platform gradually replacing Google Assistant across products, will power this speaker. Among the standout features are:

  • Gemini Live, enabling more natural and fluid conversations even without a screen or camera.
  • New natural-sounding voices to improve user interaction.
  • Capabilities to search for music and media with ease.
  • Advanced home automation setups, making your smart home more efficient.
  • The ability to detect unusual sounds like glass breaking or a smoke alarm and send alerts directly to your phone or tablet for enhanced home security.

Audio Innovations and Smart Home Hub

Google is borrowing from competitors by incorporating the ability to pair the Home Speaker with a Google TV Streamer, enabling spatial surround sound for a richer cinematic experience in the living room.

Additionally, the device supports Matter, the universal smart home standard, allowing it to function as a more capable hub that could replace older Google Home devices seamlessly.

Expected Launch Timeline

Given the unexpected reveal during the Pixel 10 event, the Home Speaker’s launch appears imminent. Industry insiders expect a release either by late October 2025 before the hectic holiday season or possibly delayed until a Spring 2026 launch alongside the Pixel 10a.
