Google Makes Video Editing Easier with New Google Drive Shortcut

Google has introduced a new shortcut for Workspace users that makes editing videos stored in Google Drive faster and easier. Now, when previewing a video file in Drive, users will see an “Open” button at the top right corner that, when clicked, launches the video directly in Google Vids — Google’s video editing tool. This update eliminates the need to manually open videos in the editor, streamlining the process.

Once inside Google Vids, users can perform simple edits such as trimming clips, adding text overlays, inserting music, and more. This integration boosts productivity by allowing quick access to editing features without navigating away from Drive’s preview screen.

The shortcut to open Google Vids is enabled by default but can be turned off by Workspace organization administrators if desired. This feature began rolling out on August 21, 2025, though it may take up to two weeks to reach all users.

This update continues Google’s efforts to enhance video handling in Drive. Last October, Google launched a new video player for Drive, and in May, it introduced the Gemini AI feature, which automatically generates video summaries to help users quickly understand video content.

With this latest shortcut, Google further simplifies video management and editing within Drive, providing Workspace users with seamless, integrated tools to create and enhance video content efficiently.
