Google is readying a big refresh of its smart home lineup, marking the first major update to its Nest devices in several years. Alongside a new Gemini-powered Google Home Speaker, the company is preparing to launch a revamped Nest Indoor Cam, Nest Outdoor Cam, and third-generation Nest Doorbell. The updates bring improved video quality, new AI features, and tighter integration with Google’s Gemini platform.
Google Home Speaker with Gemini at the Core

The upcoming Google Home Speaker represents a shift in Google’s smart home strategy, as it moves away from Google Assistant and into Gemini-driven experiences. Modeled in size after the Nest Mini, this speaker will pack AI features like Live and Learn with Gemini, real-time assistance, and advanced Sound Sensing capabilities that can detect unusual noises such as glass breaking or smoke alarms.
Audio also gets a boost with 360-degree balanced sound, making it a surprisingly powerful device for its small footprint. Users will even be able to pair it with a Google TV Streamer for a more integrated entertainment setup.
Nest Cam Indoor (3rd Gen)

Google’s third-generation Nest Cam Indoor takes a significant leap forward in both design and specs. Available in Snow, Berry, and Hazel, the camera introduces 2K HDR video resolution—a big jump from the 1080p capability of its 2021 predecessor.
Other new features include:
- 6x digital Zoom and Crop, letting users lock focus on key areas like a baby crib.
- Three-hour video previews with 10‑second event clips.
- Local video storage fallback (up to one hour without WiFi).
- Smarter alerts powered by Gemini, including recognition of people, vehicles, and animals.
Google’s cloud subscription, previously known as Nest Aware, is being rebranded under the Google Home Premium lineup, with a standard and an Advanced tier, though pricing details remain under wraps.
Nest Cam Outdoor (2nd Gen)

The Nest Cam Outdoor (2nd Gen) brings similar enhancements outside the home. It will be available in Snow and Hazel (with Hazel likely a Google Store exclusive). Like the indoor model, it supports 2K HDR, 6x digital zoom, event previews, and local storage fallback. Intelligent alerts, Activity Zones, and Familiar Face recognition all carry over from past models.
Importantly, this is the wired version—a successor to the battery-powered outdoor model still hasn’t appeared.
Nest Doorbell (3rd Gen, Wired)

Last but not least, the new Nest Doorbell is also gearing up for release. This wired, third-gen version comes in Snow, Hazel, and Linen (a beige-tone option). Like the new cameras, it features 2K HDR video, zoom and crop functionality, and a three-hour history of event previews.
One standout addition here—and across all three Nest video products—is a Daily Summaries feature. Powered by Gemini, this provides an AI-generated recap of the day’s events so users can quickly catch up on what happened in and around their home.
A Big Step for Nest After Years of Silence
It’s been several years since Google’s last Nest hardware drop, leading some to speculate that the company was winding down the brand. Instead, this upcoming launch signals a renewed investment—pairing Nest’s trusted hardware with modern AI capabilities powered by Gemini.
With smarter alerts, sharper video, and a new subscription model, Google is positioning its Nest ecosystem to better compete in the ever-growing smart home and home security market.
