The Xiaomi 16 series is poised to be the world’s first to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 (also known as Snapdragon 8 Elite 2) chipset, which is set to debut at the Snapdragon Summit slated for September 23-25. Early benchmark leaks suggest the chipset could break records with single-core scores beyond 4000 and multi-core results surpassing 11,000, promising significant performance gains over its predecessor.

Leaks hint at a four-model lineup comprising the Xiaomi 16, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max (or Pro Mini), and the Xiaomi 16 Ultra. The first three models are expected to arrive in late September, starting at around 4,299 Yuan (approximately $600), while the Ultra variant will launch in early 2026.

The new phones will offer redesigned displays featuring rounded corners and wider aspect ratios for enhanced viewing comfort. Xiaomi’s ongoing partnership with Leica is expected to bring notable camera improvements, alongside larger batteries and faster charging capabilities to ensure better endurance. Furthermore, the entire series is anticipated to debut with the latest HyperOS 3 system, promising smoother performance and smarter feature integration.

As Xiaomi prepares for this significant launch, the smartphone industry is keenly observing how the new series will compete with other flagship releases later this month, including Apple’s iPhone 17 series.
