Spotify has made a big change for its free users: now they can play any song they want on the app. This means free users no longer have to shuffle through random tracks to find a particular song. However, this freedom comes with a daily limit on how much on-demand listening time users have, after which the app limits them back to six skips per hour.

Previously, free users could only listen to songs on shuffle, but Spotify’s new update lets them pick and play specific tracks from albums, playlists, or search results. This also includes the ability to instantly play songs shared by friends or artists on social media. Spotify calls these features Pick & Play, Search & Play, and Share & Play.

Even with these improvements, regular ads will still play between songs for free users. For full unlimited control without limits on skips or playback, users will still need to upgrade to Spotify Premium. Spotify hopes these changes will make free users happier and more engaged, potentially encouraging more people to subscribe to Premium eventually.
