Amazon is working on new augmented reality (AR) glasses that could change the way its delivery drivers work and how consumers use smart glasses. The company is developing two types of glasses: one for its delivery drivers, called “Amelia,” and a sleeker version for customers, internally codenamed “Jayhawk.”

The delivery driver glasses are expected to arrive first, possibly by mid-2026. These glasses will be bulkier but practical, with a small display that shows drivers turn-by-turn navigation and instructions to help them deliver packages faster and more safely. Amazon plans to start with making about 100,000 units for its delivery workers.

The consumer version, Jayhawk, is expected to launch later, in late 2026 or early 2027. These glasses will have a full-color display in one eye, built-in microphones, speakers, and a camera. They may offer features like Alexa voice control, navigation, and smart notifications, similar to other AR glasses from companies like Meta and Google.

Amazon’s new glasses aim to help drivers stay hands-free and focused on their routes while eventually offering everyday users a high-tech, lightweight smart glasses option. This move puts Amazon in direct competition with other major tech companies developing AR wearables.
