Apple has made a significant U-turn on its redesigned Photos app in iOS 18, following a wave of criticism from users. The controversial Carousel feature, which allowed users to swipe horizontally through different views of their photo library, has been entirely removed in iOS 18 beta 5.
The Carousel, introduced in the initial beta, aimed to simplify navigation by providing quick access to features like Memories, Favorites, and more. However, many users found the new interface confusing and disruptive to their workflow.
While the Carousel is gone, the overall modular design of the Photos app remains, allowing users to customize the layout by rearranging and hiding sections. This offers a degree of personalization without the complexities of the Carousel.
It’s worth noting that this change is currently exclusive to iOS 18 beta 5, with iPhone 15 Pro users testing Apple Intelligence unable to access the update. The final version of iOS 18 is expected to be released to the public in approximately a month.
