Apple may be gearing up to launch a major refresh of its HomePod smart speaker, and this time, it could come with a display. It’s been two years since the second-generation HomePod was introduced, and signs from the latest iOS 26 developer beta suggest that the next version is in the works — with a significant upgrade.
A new line discovered in the beta by MacRumors reads, “Your HomePod won’t be able to show you the local weather, time, or respond to Siri requests about your area.” The use of the word “show” is noteworthy, as current HomePods do not have a screen to display any visual information. This points to the possibility of a built-in display on the next HomePod, enabling it to present weather, time, and other data without relying solely on voice responses.

This aligns with previous rumors that Apple is working on a HomePod with a square touch screen. The new model could serve as a smart home hub, offering users controls over HomeKit and Matter devices, much like an Amazon Echo Show or Google’s Pixel Tablet hub. Despite the screen, Siri will remain the core voice assistant for interactions.
Sources also suggest that the new HomePod’s launch was delayed due to issues with Apple’s upcoming AI-powered Siri, part of the company’s broader “Apple Intelligence” effort. If true, the new HomePod could be Apple’s attempt to blend voice-first interactions with rich visual feedback, delivering a more versatile smart home experience.
The new HomePod is expected to debut in spring 2026, giving Apple enough time to refine it into a true smart home centerpiece.
