Galaxy S26 Ultra Leak Reveals Potentially Upgraded 200MP Sony Sensor

A new leak has sparked excitement among smartphone enthusiasts, suggesting the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra could feature a massively upgraded 200MP main camera—and, in a surprising twist, it may be supplied by Sony rather than Samsung’s in-house camera division. According to the leak, the S26 Ultra’s main sensor would be a 1/1.1-inch 200MP Sony camera, significantly larger than the 1/1.3-inch 200MP sensor currently found in the Galaxy S25 Ultra and its predecessors. This size increase would allow for greater light intake, promising improved image quality, especially in low-light conditions, and potentially superior full-resolution shots and cropped zoom images.

If true, this would mark a major shift for Samsung, which has historically used its own ISOCELL sensors for its Ultra series flagships. Notably, Sony has yet to release a 200MP sensor for smartphones, so this move would also represent Sony’s entry into the ultra-high-resolution sensor market. The leak, originating from Fixed Focus Digital on Weibo, describes the change as “uncharacteristically aggressive” for Samsung, a company known for incremental camera hardware upgrades in recent years.

While earlier leaks confirmed the S26 Ultra would retain a 200MP main camera, none specified such a significant sensor upgrade or a switch to Sony as the supplier. The rest of the S26 Ultra’s camera system is expected to include a 50MP ultra-wide lens, a 50MP periscope lens with 5x optical zoom, and a 12MP telephoto camera, along with possible improvements in autofocus and image processing.

As with all early leaks, this information should be treated with caution. Samsung has not officially confirmed any details about the S26 Ultra’s camera hardware, and the company’s typical product cycle means more concrete information is likely to emerge closer to the expected launch in early 2026.
