Google has officially rolled out the stable version of Android 15 for its Pixel smartphones, marking a significant update for users. After releasing the Android 15 build to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) last month, this update is now available for eligible Pixel devices, bringing a host of new features aimed at enhancing user privacy and multitasking capabilities.
Features of Android 15
Private Space
One of the standout features in Android 15 is Private Space, which allows users to create a secure area on their device for sensitive apps. This feature adds an extra layer of authentication, ensuring that these apps are kept away from prying eyes.
App Archiving
The update introduces app archiving, integrated directly into the operating system. Users can now manage the archiving and restoring of apps directly from the Settings app, simplifying the process significantly.
Enhanced Privacy Controls
Android 15 also enhances user consent and privacy with support for sharing or recording specific app windows. This feature ensures that users have better control over what information they share.
Improved Multitasking on Tablets and Foldables
For users with tablets or foldable devices, Android 15 allows them to save app pairings. This feature enables users to create split-screen setups and pin them to the home screen for quick access.
Additional Enhancements
Other notable features include:
- Predictive back animations that help users navigate more intuitively.
- Taskbar pinning for easier access to frequently used apps.
- A redesigned volume panel and richer widget previews.
