Meta has just unveiled its latest Oakley Meta Vanguard smart glasses designed specifically for athletes such as runners and cyclists. Revealed at Meta Connect 2025, these stylish glasses cost $499 and will launch on October 21 in various countries including the U.S., Canada, and Europe.

The Oakley Meta Vanguard departs from previous Meta smart glasses by using a single large front lens instead of two camera modules. It boasts a centrally mounted 12-megapixel camera with a 122-degree wide-angle lens capable of recording videos in up to 3K resolution. Additional new camera modes include slow motion and hyperlapse for versatile content capture.

Built with athletes in mind, the glasses feature a wraparound design with Oakley PRIZM™ lens technology that protects against sun, wind, and dust. An IP67 rating ensures water and dust resistance, making them durable for intense outdoor workouts. Controls are placed underneath the frame to allow helmet wearers to use the glasses comfortably.

For audio, the glasses sport open-ear speakers that deliver sound six decibels louder than the previous generation, plus a five-microphone array optimized to reduce wind noise during calls or voice commands. Battery life is strong, offering up to nine hours of mixed use or six hours of continuous music playback, with a charging case providing 36 additional hours of charge.

Integration with fitness tools is a key highlight. The glasses connect with Garmin smartwatches and Strava to provide real-time stats like heart rate and pace. Users can also auto-capture video clips when hitting workout milestones and overlay performance metrics on photos and videos shared with their fitness community.
