Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 150g Weight Leak Sounds Impossible

A new report out of Korea is making some bold claims about Samsung’s 2026 foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8. According to the leak, Samsung is allegedly targeting dramatic weight drops, including an almost unbelievable 150g for the Z Flip 8. As always with early foldable leaks: keep that salt shaker handy.

The wild weight claims

The report suggests:

  • Galaxy Z Flip 8: 150g
  • Galaxy Z Fold 8: 200g with a larger 5,000mAh battery

For context, Samsung’s current foldables weigh:

A 15g cut on the Fold 8 sounds ambitious but plausible, especially if Samsung continues refining its hinge and frame materials. But shaving 38g off the already-light Z Flip 7 to hit 150g would be a massive engineering jump for a modern 5G clamshell with decent battery and cameras.

Tipster pushback: 150g “not happening”

Well-known leaker Ice Universe has already poured cold water on the 150g rumor. Citing another report, they say the Galaxy Z Flip 8 is indeed expected to be lighter—but only by about 8g, going from 188g down to roughly 180g. That’s a much more realistic target and still a welcome improvement.

How light is “light enough” for a flip?

Foldable flip phones are already appealing because they’re compact in your pocket, even if they’re thicker than a regular slab phone. At 188g, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is hardly heavy, especially compared to recent iPhone Pro models, which have actually gotten heavier and still sell just fine.

Going ultra-light sounds great on paper, but it usually forces trade-offs in:

  • Battery capacity
  • Structural rigidity and durability
  • Thermal management and component layout

For most users, a slightly heavier device with a bigger battery and stronger frame is preferable to chasing headline-grabbing weight numbers.

Z Fold 8: the more believable part

The idea of a Galaxy Z Fold 8 dropping from 215g to around 200g while gaining a 5,000mAh battery is aggressive, but not impossible. Samsung has been steadily trimming weight with new hinge designs and lighter materials, and large foldables have more physical volume to spread components around.

Still, with launch expected around July 2026, we’re very early in the leak cycle. Specs and targets can change, and some “numbers” may be internal goals rather than final shipping hardware.

For now, treat the 150g Z Flip 8 as wishful thinking rather than a lock—and expect more grounded leaks in the coming months as Samsung’s foldable lineup gets closer to mass production.
