WhatsApp is bringing a fresh update to its long-standing ‘About’ feature, giving it a modern, interactive twist. Originally one of the app’s first functions, the About section now supports emojis, short phrases, and custom expiry timers, letting users express themselves more dynamically and timely within chats.

The redesigned About now appears at the top of one-on-one chats and on profile pages. Users can tap on someone’s About to send quick context-based replies, making conversations more natural without requiring a full message.

By default, each About post disappears after one day, but users can adjust the visibility period through Settings → Set About, deciding whether to keep it shorter or extend it longer. This flexible timer system mirrors the convenience of temporary statuses while keeping communication subtle.

WhatsApp now allows users to pair an emoji with a short phrase to share their current mood or activity—like signaling they’re busy, free to chat, or on the move. Enhanced privacy options are also included, giving users control over who can see their About, whether it’s only selected contacts or a broader audience.

The refreshed About feature is rolling out globally to mobile users this week and will appear with the latest app version.
