WhatsApp has recently rolled out an update that allows users to Multiple Message Pinning up to three messages in a chat, a significant enhancement from the previous limit of one pinned message per conversation. This new feature aims to streamline the process of accessing crucial information within chats, making it easier for users to keep track of important messages.
Key Features of Multiple Message Pinning
- Message Variety: Users can now pin various types of messages, including text, images, and polls, enabling them to highlight a diverse range of content for quick reference.
- Duration Options: Pinned messages can be set to remain at the top of the chat for 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days, providing flexibility in how long users want specific messages to be prominently displayed.
- Navigation: Pinned messages are presented as interactive banners at the chat’s top, enabling users to access them instantly with a single tap. The latest pinned message takes precedence, and users can seamlessly move through multiple pinned messages.
How to Pin a Message
The process of pinning a message varies slightly across different platforms:
- Android: Tap and hold the message, then select “More options” > “Pin” > choose duration > “Pin.”
- iPhone: Tap and hold the message, then select “More options” > “Pin” > choose duration.
- Web & Desktop: Navigate to the message then click the menu > “Pin message” > choose duration > “Pin.”
Users have the flexibility to unpin messages at any time or let them automatically unpin when the set duration expires.
Group Chat Pinning
In group chats, admins have the authority to decide whether all members can pin messages or if it’s an admin-only privilege. When a message is pinned in a group chat, a system message notifies all members about the pinned message and identifies the person who pinned it. However, users who join a group after a message is pinned won’t see it unless it’s repinned.
Limitations and Alternatives
While this feature enhances accessibility to important messages, there are limitations such as the need to re-pin messages every 30 days. Alternatively, users can “star” messages to bookmark them for future reference.
Availability
The multiple message pinning feature is now available across Android, iOS, Web, and Desktop versions of WhatsApp. Users are encouraged to update their app to access this new functionality and make use of its benefits in organizing and accessing essential information within their chats efficiently.
