The first Android 15 developer preview is finally here, bringing with it a number of new features and improvements. Let’s take a look at some of the most notable changes:

Improved privacy measures

Android 15 introduces the latest version of Google’s Privacy Sandbox suite, as well as improved file integrity functionality thanks to the “fs-verity” feature in the Linux kernel. This will help to protect users from malware and unauthorized file changes.

Tools for better gaming performance

The Android Dynamic Performance Framework (ADPF) has been expanded to include a power efficiency mode for hint sessions, thermal headroom thresholds, and support for GPU and CPU work durations. This will give developers more ways to balance performance and efficiency in games and other advanced apps.

Partial screen recording/sharing:

You can now record or share a single app window rather than your entire system. This is a great way to share a tutorial or gameplay video without accidentally revealing sensitive information.
More robust camera controls for third-party apps: Third-party camera apps will now have access to more robust camera controls, including flash strength adjustments and low-light improvements.

Better support for Health Connect:

Android 15 includes better support for Health Connect, including support for new fitness and nutrition data types.
Better support for virtual MIDI apps: Virtual MIDI apps will now have better support in Android 15.

Overall, the first Android 15 developer preview is a solid update that brings a number of new features and improvements. If you’re a developer, you can download the preview now and start testing your apps. If you’re not a developer, you’ll have to wait until later this year for the stable release of Android 15.
